‘Serious mistake’ – Truce after 100 rockets pound Israel in 24 hours

Sderot mayor angry about ceasefire, says that residents of his city ‘will pay the price’ this summer for ‘lax’ Israeli response.

By Lauren Marcus, World Israel News

After Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists in the Gaza Strip launched more than 100 rockets towards civilian communities in southern Israel in a one day span, the IDF announced that it had reached a ceasefire with the terror groups that rule over the coastal enclave.

At least twelve people in Israel were wounded by the onslaught, with one foreign national seriously wounded and two others in moderate condition after a rocket struck the construction site where they were working on Tuesday afternoon.

The latest flare-up of violence came after a senior Islamic Jihad commander, Khader Adnan, died in an Israeli prison following a nearly three-month-long hunger strike.

Casualties on the Gazan side have not been made public, with some Palestinian news outlets reporting that a Hamas terrorist was badly wounded in a retaliatory Israeli airstrike on a rocket-manufacturing facility. The terror group has refused to confirm any injuries or deaths among its operatives.

Despite the truce silencing the wail of rocket sirens that kept residents of Israel’s Negev communities huddled in rocket shelters for most of the past day and night, some local lawmakers were angry about the ceasefire.

Alon Davidi, the mayor of Sderot, a city near the Strip which has been the frequent target of bombings, said that the truce encourages terror and that Israel’s response to the rocket fire had not been decisive enough.

“This is a serious mistake,” Davidi said to Ynet, speaking about the ceasefire. “There is a war going on between the Gaza Strip and Sderot, and the government is adopting a policy in which it lets terrorists off the hook and protects the leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. This policy is too lax, and we will pay a price for it this summer.

“It’s funny that the terrorists shoot to kill us, yet the government ties the hands of the IDF and does not allow them to harm the terrorists themselves,” he added, referring to calls for the Israeli government to assassinate leaders of terror groups, rather than their assets such as rocket launching or weapons storage sites.

“The terrorist commanders need to be eliminated, but it seems like they signed an under-the-table agreement that the IDF won’t kill them.”

Girl Tragically Dies During Horse Riding Competition

On Sunday, 15-year-old Hannah Serfass of Webster, Florida, suffered a tragic end to her promising career in the equestrian world when she died during a riding competition at Fox Lea Farm in Venice, Florida.

Hannah was participating in a jumper event and was attempting to clear the sixth challenge when tragedy struck while she was on horseback. Quaxx 2, is a 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding. It began when Quaxx made a sudden and unexpected turn downward, throwing the young rider to the ground. The horse followed, subsequently falling and landing on Hannah’s head.

Personnel from Fox Lea Farm rushed to Serfass’ aid, with law enforcement arriving shortly afterward. Sadly, the attempt to save her life failed, and the young girl died of her injuries.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation called the incident “unrelated to a jumping effort” and stated its condolences to the family and the entire equestrian community. Fox Lea Farm also expressed sorrow for what had occurred and the loss of this beloved and determined young athlete.

Serfass’ death is a reminder of the inherent risks in any sport participated in on horseback and of the measures that must be taken to try to avoid a situation such as this from occurring again. Steps are being taken to analyze the accident and determine how the tragedy might have been avoided. The equestrian community holds strong memories of Hannah Serfass, who will never be forgotten.

Woman Found Dead on Popular Hiking Trail, Killer Still at Large

Phoenix police responded to a 911 call on Saturday morning regarding an injured individual on the Reach 11 trail near Scottsdale Road and Mayo Boulevard.

Upon arrival, they declared it a homicide investigation after finding the body of 29-year-old Lauren Heike with signs of trauma.

The Phoenix Police Department has released a surveillance video of a person of interest. It shows an individual running on the trail; authorities hope to uncover details related to the case.

Lauren worked as a beverage cart server at the Troon North Golf Club. Her boss at the club, Brian Thorne, described her as a wonderful person, and her death has been challenging for all staff.

Many neighbors close to the trail are now on edge, feeling sad and cautious – aware of their vulnerability. Knowing little about a suspect or motive, police are urging people not to hike alone and remain alert for suspicious activity.

The untimely death of Lauren Heike has left her family, friends, and community reeling in grief. A reminder of our collective fragility, it is important to stay aware of our surroundings and trust our instincts. Boy Mauled to Death by Lion Mauls in Private Zoo

Monday marked a dark day in the Gaza Strip as a young life tragically ended after encountering a lion in a private zoo. In Khan Younis, the southern town of the Palestinian territory, 6-year-old Hamada Ikteit was reportedly mauled by a lion after scaling the zoo’s fence.

The police force, under the militant Hamas group, provided the initial report, claiming that he had breached the cage through an opening. However, his family disputes this and alleges that he was attacked when he reached the outer fence facing the animal.

This is believed to be the first reported death as a result of animals housed in private zoos in Gaza. Unfortunate conditions such as potential starvation and lack of medical care have afflicted many private zoos, exacerbated by Israeli-Hamas conflicts.

Organizations have collaborated to move lions and other creatures to sanctuaries in places such as Jordan and Africa.

The tragic incident of Hamada’s death has sparked calls to better protect the animals of Gaza while considering their safety with the same urgency applied to human life. As the impact of the long-lasting Israeli-Hamas conflict and other chronic issues, such as poverty and deprivation, continues to loom, the persecuted creatures of Gaza are among the forgotten victims of the decades-long chaos that has poisoned the occupied Palestinian territory.

Seven people were wounded in Sderot earlier in the day when rockets struck the southern city.

The Israel Air Force attacked the western part of Gaza City and the northern part of the Strip, including Hamas targets, Hebrew-language media reported.

Israel sent a message to the terror group that it bears responsibility for the attacks on Israeli soil, as it rules the Gaza Strip, despite the fact that Palestinian Islamic Jihad had carried out several attacks following the death of one its most prominent leaders, Khader Anan, in Israeli prison Tuesday morning.
