America Mourns Loss of Hall of Fame Broadcaster Curt Gowdy

West Palm Beach, FL – For Decades, he was the smooth voice that brought us Ted Williams’ last home run, the first Super Bowl, the NBA Game of the week, and countless other memorable moments in sports history.

On Monday, America lost its voice, it lost Curt Gowdy.

Described by Howard Cossell as “The best all-purpose play-by-play announcer in broadcast”, Gowdy embodied more than just sports, he embodied the human spirit.

Even those who grew up listening to Gowdy could sense his good nature.

Among those who listened to Gowdy as he called the Boston Red Sox games from 1951-1965, was 2008 Presidential Candidate and Boston native, Daniel Imperato (www.daniel2008.com), who came to know the Gowdy family in his later days.

“Curt Gowdy is an American icon, and an American hero. He brought sports into the living room of every home in America,” stated Imperato.

Imperato also wanted to send his condolences to the families during their difficult time.

“My heart goes out to the family of Mr. Gowdy, who has my deepest sympathies. Curt Gowdy was a great man, and will be missed by all,” expressed Imperato.

Curt Gowdy, who died Monday, worked the broadcast booths at 13 World Series, 16 All-Star baseball games, numerous Rose Bowls and the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

In 1966, he spent 10 years as NBA’s announcer for its game of the week and also was the president of the Basketball Hall of Fame for several years.

Gowdy was inducted into the American Sportscaster’s Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Curt Gowdy State Park was established between Laramie and Cheyenne in 1971.

Gowdy was honored in a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park last Aug. 28. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday at Boston’s Trinity Church.
