Shawn Kemp, a six-time NBA All-Star, was taken into custody at the Pierce County Jail in Washington Wednesday due to his association with a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred at about 2 p.m., and he was booked at 5:58 p.m.
According to the police report, this shooting resulted from an altercation between the people in two cars that were in a parking lot near the Tacoma Mall. A gun was later confiscated. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
Shawn Kemp is a highly decorated NBA player, earning six All-Star selections. He was picked in the first round of the 1989 NBA draft. He spent eight years with the Seattle SuperSonics, a team that later moved to Oklahoma and became the Oklahoma City Thunder. His last season in the NBA was with the Orlando Magic in 2002-03, before he retired. Additionally, Kemp made quite an impression in the league from 1990-2004, receiving multiple All-Star titles while on the Cavaliers and Trail Blazers.
Back in 2005, Kemp was apprehended in Washington for having drugs in his possession, for which he officially accepted the accusation and admitted his guilt. Two years later, in 2006, he was taken into custody in Houston, Texas, due to a minor marijuana possession offense.
