Daniel Imperato Salutes America’s Last Independent President George Washington

Cairo, Egypt – December 14, 2006 – Today, 2008 Independent Presidential Candidate, Daniel Imperato, in the middle of his travels to Egypt, took the time to pay homage America’s last Independent President, George Washington, on the anniversary of his death at Mount Vernon on December 14, 1799.

“I want everyone to remember what a great man George Washington was on this day. His wisdom for our country was ahead of his time, and the precedents that he set for our nation are still in place today,” commented Imperato.

Washington, who was a business man, planter, and land owner, felt exploited by British merchants and hampered by British regulations in his business dealings. From those roots he was eventually elected to the Second Continental Congress and elected Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.

After winning independence for our nation, George Washington became the first President of the United States of America. He warned of the dangers of a two party system, and was in the truest sense of the word, an independent.

To his disappointment, two parties were developing by the end of his first term. Wearied of politics, feeling old, he retired at the end of his second. In his Farewell Address, he urged his countrymen to forswear excessive party spirit and geographical distinctions.

“On this day of remembrance, I hope and pray that America can heed the words of our Forefather and greatest leader, George Washington. We have a responsibility, as Americans, to preserve our liberties, and to keep lit the torch of freedom and independence that George Washington lit for us some 200 years ago.”
