Police Union Executive Runs Fentynal Drug Trafficking Out of Her House

Joanne Marian Segovia, a long-time executive director of the Police Officers Association in San Jose, California, has been charged with a shocking crime.

She allegedly attempted to illiegally import synthetic opioids but pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday. Segovia had been widely seen as a supportive community member, known for organizing fundraisers for the children and families of fallen officers.

However, a 13-page complaint released by the US Attorney’s office details multiple packages delivered to Segovia’s address between October 2015 and January 2023. The packages were sent from various countries and marked as food supplements, wedding party favors, and other items to disguise the shipment of drugs, including synthetic opioids and Tapentadol, often used to treat nerve damage caused by diabetes.

The case against Segovia was uncovered during an investigation into a drug distribution network based in India. In WhatsApp messages between January 2020 and March 2023, the executive director allegedly wrote, “I’m on a business trip because we had two officers that got shot! I should be home tomorrow night, so I’ll get them shipped as soon as I can.” Segovia also reportedly sent a parcel to a woman in North Carolina, taking a photo to prove she had sent it, and used the San Jose Police Officers’ Association UPS account.

The revelation has stunned the San Jose community, prompting Mayor Matt Mahan to express his appreciation for the US Attorney’s thorough investigation and denouncing Segovia’s alleged actions. If found guilty of attempting to import synthetic opioids, Segovia could receive a 20-year sentence as the maximum punishment. However, the reason behind Segovia’s involvement in a drug trafficking operation remains unknown.

Babysitter Kills 13-Month-Old Baby, Bruised From Head to Toe

Eric Richard Boudreau, a 32-year-old man, was arrested in Washington state last week due to the death of a 13-month-old infant boy he was babysitting late last year. Boudreau was charged with one count of second-degree murder. The Lacey Police Department (LPD) stated that the arrest was made following a long and thorough investigation.

On November 11, 2022, LPD officers and firefighters responded to a 911 call in the 9000 block of Campus Glen Drive Northeast at a residence. Medics got a heartbeat from the victim after performing 16 rounds of CPR, and he was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was pronounced dead. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the toddler’s death resulted from blunt force trauma to the head.

The victim’s mother told police she had left the child under Boudreau’s care while she was at work, as his daycare was closed. The victim’s father stated he heard Boudreau tell the crying toddler to “shut up” earlier that day.

In an interview with investigators, Boudreau said he had drank several beers and smoked marijuana the night before, but he believed he was still able to watch the toddler. He also said he had fallen asleep with the child, and when he woke up, he found him injured at the bottom of the stairs.

The LPD conducted a thorough investigation and determined that the injuries sustained by the toddler were not consistent with a fall down the stairs.

According to the paramedics who treated the toddler, there was not a single square inch of the baby’s body that was not bruised. One medic reported that the child’s injuries were the worst he had ever seen in 17 years of service.

Based on the evidence, Boudreau was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder. The LPD stated that the arrest was made following a long and thorough investigation. The case is still ongoing, and Boudreau is currently awaiting trial. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

WATCH: Ex-PM Ehud Barak unveils strategy for bringing down Israel’s government

Persistent protests, boycotts and civil disobedience by 3.5% of the population win out, the former prime minister said.

By JNS

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak revealed his strategy for a “counter-revolution” to bring down the Netanyahu government, speaking in an address to Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, a London-based think tank, on Monday.

Barak, a supporter of the anti-judicial reform protests which have roiled Israel and led Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to call for a temporary halt to the legislation, said he was sure his side would win “because I know our people, and we have even empirical evidence for this.”

He referred to the U.S. research of Professor Erica Chenoweth and political scientist Maria J. Stephan, who co-authored a 2012 book, “Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict.”

Barak said the two researchers looked at hundreds of civil protests from 1900 to 2006, and “they found a common denominator”—protests that succeeded included 3.5% of the population, or roughly 8% of the adult population, and “tenaciously and persistently” kept up the protests, boycotts and civil disobedience.

“At the end the government either falls or capitulates,” Barak said. “We already crossed this number in less than three months so we are heading in the right direction.”

Barak said Israel’s government is acting “in a blatantly illegitimate manner,” and is trying to make Israel “basically a dictatorship or a non-democratic kind of entity.”

Tens of thousands of judicial reform supporters protest in Tel Aviv

Protesters in the so-called “March for Freedom” called on the government not to surrender to the left during negotiations on the judicial reform.

By World Israel News Staff

Some 30,000 right-wing protesters in support of the government’s proposal for judicial reform took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, waving Israel and Likud flags.

Protesters in the so-called “March for Freedom” called on the government not to surrender to the left during negotiations on the judicial reform.

Chants of “the people demand judicial reform,” “Bibi king of Israel,” “democracy at the ballots” and “the High Court is screwing us all,” were heard among protesters, who also carried signs reading, “I’m a second-class citizen.”

Despite earlier promises from the march’s organizers that the protest would not involve attempts to block highways, hundreds of protesters made it onto the Ayalon highway. However, Israeli media said that they had police permission.

“We will not block roads, we are not anarchists. There has not been and will not be any calls and incitement to violence. The march is approved by the police and tonight Tel Aviv will also hear – the people chose judicial reform,” Im Tirtzu, one of the organizers of the march, said in a statement prior to the protest.

“Today everyone knows, in the coalition as well as the opposition, that it is necessary to carry out reforms and corrections in the judicial system. It is possible to discuss the issue, it is important to reach an agreement – but we will not allow a surrender.”

“The people’s vote must not be trampled by thugs who encouraged disobedience and damage to Israel’s economy. The majority of the people demand a correction in the judicial system and this demand must not be destroyed, the majority of the population must not be turned into second-class citizens.”

Im Tirtzu also called on demonstrators to protest peacefully, adding “we call on the police to act with a heavy hand against anyone who tries to disturb the peace and use violence.”

On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the reform legislation would be suspended until the Knesset’s summer session to allow for negotiations with the opposition under the auspices of President Isaac Herzog. The anti-government protest movement nevertheless said it would continue to take to the streets.

Different leader, same antisemitism: New Human Rights Watch chief has anti-Israel history

“Different leader, same antisemitic, Israel-obsessed, Jew-hating,” tweeted Arsen Ostrovsky, CEO of the International Legal Forum.

By JNS

Human Rights Watch, an NGO with a history of anti-Israel advocacy, announced its interim executive director Tirana Hassan will now hold the position permanently.

“Different leader, same antisemitic, Israel-obsessed, Jew-hating,” Arsen Ostrovsky, CEO of the International Legal Forum, tweeted of Hassan’s appointment.

In 2014, Hassan tweeted: “When Israel strikes ‘targets’ and takes out large civilian casualties it’s sloppy, reckless and illegal.”

“My commitment to justice and human rights is drawn from lived experience. My family—from Pakistan to Jaffna in Sri Lanka to Singapore—faced the kinds of threats to their human rights that we are combating today in communities around the world,” Hassan said in a video that the NGO posted on Twitter.

“We are living in an era where facts are up to debate,” she added.

Israel supporters say Human Rights Watch is guilty of getting the facts wrong. NGO Monitor called a 2022 Human Rights Watch report “fundamentally flawed.” The group used “lies, distortions, omissions and blatant double standards to construct a fraudulent and libelous narrative demonizing Israel,” NGO Monitor accused.

Hassan replaces Kenneth Roth, who left Human Rights Watch last August.
