Poll: Trump’s lead in Republican primaries doubled ahead of indictment

On eve of his indictment by a grand jury, Donald Trump’s lead over Ron DeSantis in the Republican primaries doubled to 30 points.

By World Israel News Staff

Former President Donald Trump’s lead over his closest challenger in the 2024 Republican primaries doubled on the eve of his indictment on business fraud charges.

Last month, a Fox News poll tracking support for candidates and potential candidates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination found Trump leading the field, winning the support of 43% of respondents.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 28%, followed by former South Carolina Governor and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley with 7%, and former Vice President Mike Pence, tied with Haley at 7%.

Former Wyoming Congresswoman and prominent Trump critic Liz Cheney came in fifth with 2%, while South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tied at sixth place with 1% each.

A new poll by Fox News, however, shows Trump’s lead over DeSantis doubling to 30 points.

The survey, conducted from March 24th to the 27th and released on Wednesday, found that Trump now enjoys the backing of 54% of likely Republican primary voters, compared to just 24% for DeSantis, 6% for Pence, 3% for Nikki Haley and Liz Cheney, with Kristi Noem, Mike Pompeo, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu all polling at 1%.

The poll was produced amid reports of a pending indictment against Donald Trump in Manhattan, a factor pollster Daron Shaw – one of two pollsters who conducted the Fox News poll – said fueled Trump’s rise in the poll.

On the Democratic side, a majority (52%) of likely Democratic primary voters said they prefer a candidate other than President Joe Biden, compared to 53% in last month’s poll.

Just 44% want Biden as their party’s nominee, up from 37% in February.

On Thursday, a Manhattan grand jury charged Trump with more than 30 counts of business fraud, making him the first former president to come under criminal indictment.

New York State drops polio vaccine ad campaign targeting Orthodox Jews

Following accusations of bigotry, New York State’s Health Department removes ad campaign in the Five Towns urging Orthodox Jews to get vaccinated against polio.

By World Israel News Staff

The New York State Health Department axed a controversial mobile ad campaign this week, following accusations of antisemitic bigotry.

State health officials recently rolled out the ad campaign in areas with large Orthodox Jewish populations, including the Five Towns.

Signs mounted on vans included in the campaign read “Polio is spreading in Israel. Get immunized now.”

Officials say the ad campaign was made in response to the recent string of cases of polio reported in Israel.

Last year, the first known case of polio in Israel since 1989 was reported when a four-year-old Jerusalem boy contracted the virus.

Three other cases have since been reported in Israel. One child has been paralyzed by the virus.

Some have accused the state’s campaign of unfairly targeting Orthodox Jews.

Republican New York State Assemblyman Ari Brown, whose district includes the Five Towns, called the campaign “subtle bigotry.”

“I will fight antisemitism and will not be silent whether it’s from a government official, media, academic institution, or whomever,” Brown wrote in a letter to New York State Department of Health Associate Commissioner Sam Miller.  “I would appreciate an expeditious response.”

Miller, Brown later said, immediately apologized and cancelled the ad campaign.

“He couldn’t have been nicer and apologetic,” Brown told Patch. “He knew there was a mistake. He was kind. Right away, he pulled it back.”

“You heard in his voice, sincerity. He was a gentleman.”

In a statement to Patch, Miller explained his decision to nix the ad campaign.

“After hearing feedback that mobile van ads intended to reach New Yorkers in their communities could be interpreted as blaming the communities themselves for the spread of polio, the Department immediately pulled those ads.”

Why do Russians support the war?

One year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, surveys demonstrate that over two-thirds of Russians still support the war. Why do people believe that the ‘special military operation’ was necessary? How is it possible that they don’t change their minds even when they know about the Russian army’s devastating war crimes in Ukraine and losses and chaos the army is suffering?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez poses for photo with Libs of TikTok creator – and instantly regrets it

New York congresswoman slams Orthodox Jewish woman behind the conservative ‘Libs of TikTok’ account as ‘super transphobic’ after posing with her for a photograph.

By World Israel News Staff

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez met briefly with the Orthodox Jewish creator of a conservative social media account, before denouncing her as being “super transphobic.”

Chaya Raichik, creator of the popular “Libs of TikTok” account on Twitter, traveled to the Capitol on Thursday to meet with Ocasio-Cortez, after the congresswoman accused Raichik of lying.

The Democratic lawmaker made the accusation at a February 8th hearing of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, disputing a 2022 tweet by the Libs of TikTok handle that Boston Children’s Hospital offers hysterectomies for children.

Are you aware… that from August 11th to August 16th that account posted false information about Boston Children’s Hospital claiming that they were providing hysterectomies to children?” Ocasio-Cortez asked a former Twitter executive during the February 8th hearing.

Raichik appeared in person at the Capitol to file an ethics complaint at Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional office.

Hoping to meet with the congresswoman, Raichik was disappointed to learn that Ocasio-Cortez was not present at the time of her visit.

Just before she left the Capitol, however, Raichik spotted the lawmaker, and seized on the opportunity, securing a photo opportunity with Ocasio-Cortez.

Immediately after taking a joint photograph, Raichik informed Ocasio-Cortez that she had just filed an ethics complaint with her office, prompting the congresswoman to storm off, calling Raichik “super transphobic.”

“I just delivered an ethics complaint to your office because you lied about me in a committee hearing,” Raichik said.

“Oh, hi. You’re actually super transphobic and I never want to share a space with you,” Ocasio-Cortez said in response.
