Did America really know about ‘Wagner’ rebellion before it happened?

The US saw this as a perfect opportunity to once again bolster its reputation as an “all-seeing superpower” that is supposedly “always in the loop about everything that’s going on everywhere”. Such self-delusions can be extremely dangerous and might explain Washington DC’s tendency to act rashly, even against near-peer adversaries.

Hezbollah quietly removes tent from Israeli territory, after public refusals

The Israeli authorities did not confirm or deny reports regarding the dismantling of one of the tents on Monday morning.

By World Israel News Staff

The Hezbollah terror group dismantled a tent it had built in an illegal outpost on the Israeli side of the Lebanon-Israel border fence, just days after claiming that Jerusalem would need to declare war in order for the encampment to be removed.

Hebrew-language media reported that at least one of the tents had been taken down overnight and without an official statement from Hezbollah acknowledging that it was doing so.

The Ynet news outlet reported that while the tent had been dismantled, the Hezbollah operatives occupying it had not left the area – rather, they are now stationed in another tent on the Israeli side of the border that has remained untouched.

The Israeli authorities did not confirm or deny reports regarding the dismantling of one of the tents on Monday morning.

Over the weekend, a lawmaker representing the terror group in the Lebanese parliament told Arabic-language media that Israel’s complaints regarding the violation of its territory did not move Hezbollah, and that Jerusalem should either “shut up” or declare war to remove the tents.

Israel has repeatedly sought to avoid a direct confrontation with Lebanon over the issue, instead reaching out to international bodies and the U.S. in order to pressure Beirut to remove the outpost.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan sent an open letter to the body’s UNIFIL peacekeeping force, which is responsible for ensuring stability on the Blue Line, noting that the tents constituted a violation of the status quo.

But despite the UN admitting that the tents were indeed illegal and located in Israeli territory, the body refused to condemn Hezbollah or make any moves to force the terror group to remove them.

The tent construction came just months after two attacks against Israel launched across the Lebanese border.

During the Passover holiday in April 2023, the largest barrage of rockets fired from Lebanon towards Israel since the 2006 war struck the town of Shlomi in northern Israel. No injuries were reported, though multiple buildings were damaged.

In March 2023, a terrorist affiliated with Hezbollah infiltrated into Israel and placed a bomb near a major road, which seriously wounded a motorist.

IDF launches major military operation in Jenin

At least 4 terrorists killed as over 1,000 Israeli soldiers converge on Palestinian Arab terror center of Jenin for massive operation.

By Pesach Benson, TPS

The Israeli Defense Forces launched a major counter-terror operation in the Palestinian city of Jenin, including the refugee camp, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The IDF confirmed in a statement that “security forces are now engaged in a widescale effort to thwart terror throughout Jenin,” striking “terror infrastructure.”

“As part of an effort to widely thwart the removal of the threat of terrorism in Judea and Samaria, the security forces attacked a headquarters that is the unified headquarters of the factions in the refugee camp in Jenin and the operatives of the ‘Jenin Battalion,’” the statement said.

The statement did not specify if the joint headquarters had been attacked by land or air. Initial Palestinian media reports said the joint headquarters inside the UN-administered refugee camp had been struck by aerial drones. Those reports also said four terrorists were killed.

The IDF revealed Monday morning that it has deployed bulldozers specially fitted with armor to clear the streets of improvised explosive devices, allowing infantry to operate in Jenin.

Multiple IEDs were detonated during the clearing operation.

IDF spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari said the operation, which includes elements of a number of different infantry brigades as well as special forces, is intended to thwart the capabilities of terrorist organizations based there to continue with their activities and promised that infrastructure for making weapons and bombs as well as wanted terrorists will be targeted.

He also implied that this is only the beginning saying the activity is “part of a sequence of actions that we will continue to carry out.”

Hagari explained that as many as 50 terror attacks carried out in the past two years were planned in Jenin.

The assault in Jenin began with an attack on a terrorist command center that was deliberately placed among UNRWA facilities such as a school and a food distribution center.

Hagari added that the terrorists were surprised by the attacks because they did not realize that the IDF had discovered the locations of their bases of operations in Jenin.

Hagari did not say how long this operation will last, just that there will be a number of operations carried out in all of northern Samaria according to two criteria: intelligence gathered on the terrorist bases and operational timing.

A major counter-terror operation was widely anticipated by Israelis and Palestinians alike as Palestinian terror mounted in northern Samaria. Since the beginning of 2023, 24 people have been killed in terror attacks. The Palestinian Authority has little influence in northern Samaria.

In mid-June, an unusually large bomb buried beneath a road injuring seven soldiers was followed by the launch of the first rocket from Jenin., The IDF carried out a targeted assassination of three terrorists in Samaria with an aerial drone, a tactic not seen in Judea and Samaria in 20 years.

Global Warmism as Reformulated Dialectical Materialism

In The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962), philosopher of science Thomas S. Kuhn contests the prevailing linear, additive, and cumulative conceit of scientific progress via the introduction of paradigms, “universally recognized scientific achievements that for a time provide model problems and solutions to a community of practitioners.” Designating the respective achievements of Copernicus, Newton, Lavoisier, and Einstein the quintessential examples, he continues:

“Men whose research is based on shared paradigms are committed to the same rules and standards for scientific practice. That commitment and the apparent consensus it produces are prerequisites for normal science, i.e., for the genesis and continuation of a particular research tradition.”

Kuhn was theorizing during an almost immeasurably less partisan epoch, and he was locating scientific research principally within epistemic as opposed to ideological community. But amid the almost irresistible homogenizing incentives of the politics of grant writing, of the near omnipotence of tenured department chairs, and of the perceived institutional advantages of adopting a mass line when interfacing with the general public, amongst others, conceptual interest in Kuhn’s “apparent consensus” ought to be revisited with regard to the salient but fraught research paradigm of global warming.

Valid research methods and empirical findings characterize the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR6 Synthesis Report (March 20th, 2023) with its primary call for “climate resilient development.” Even so, the enfolding narrative of impending climate collapse epistemically reformulates the Marxist notion of forthcoming capitalist collapse, a connection demonstrable through a brief critical comparison of the representative “Principles of Communism” (1847) of Friedrich Engels and This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate (2014) of Naomi Klein. Amid respective cultures of transnational anti-capitalist resistance, both prominent Klein and Engels postulate a looming culpable ruin of industrial civilization salvageable exclusively through total and immediate systemic transformation on a materialist basis. As Engels explains:

“New social order will have to take the control of industry and of all branches of production out of the hands of mutually competing individuals, and instead institute a system in which all these branches of production are operated by society as a whole…and with the participation of all members of society.”

Likewise, Klein maintains,

“The climate moment offers an overarching narrative in which everything from the fight for good jobs to justice for migrants to reparations for historical wrongs like slavery and colonialism can all become part of the grand project of building a nontoxic, shockproof economy before it’s too late.”

While 19th and 20th century Marxists argued from the science of dialectical materialism that the breakdown of capitalism by its own internal contradictions was necessarily coming, global warmism postulates an approaching revolutionary “tipping point” of no return. Ironically though, the same concentration of international capital held responsible for global warmism also potentially offers salvation from the current otherwise terminal diagnosis. As Engels states:

“The very qualities of big industry which, in our present-day society, produce misery and crises are those which, in a different form of society, will abolish this misery and these catastrophic depressions.”

Klein reformulates as follows:

“The massive global investments required to respond to the climate threat—to adapt humanely and equitably to the heavy weather we have already locked in, and to avert the truly catastrophic warming we can still avoid—is a chance to change all that.”

Although Klein’s conception of climate justice comprehends a much wider assortment of prospective beneficiaries than merely the industrial proletariat, the designated testator of Marx and Engels is not overlooked. “Sky-high divorce rates due to prolonged separations and intense work stress, soaring levels of addiction, and a great many people wishing to be anywhere but where they are” (344) belongs to her plaintive account of the travails of nomadic fossil fuel workers in the tradition of Engels’ admirable Condition of the Working Class in England (1845).

Although ideas cannot easily be dated, the year 1992 was central to this reformulation of dialectical materialism as global warmism; every industrialized nation signed if not ratified the initial United Nations Convention on Climate Change, prior to the appearance of significant evidence for global warming or any apparent consensus as to its anthropic origin. But with the collapse of the Soviet Union the previous year dispersing any prospect of socialist transformation, and with thwarted international idealism impatiently seeking out new forms of expression, the evidence to some degree needed to be found and the consent to some degree needed to be manufactured. A “Climate International” of sorts therefore came to be organized along many of the same conceptual and organizational lines as the previous international socialists.

This critical context has unfolded however to qualify rather than to disqualify the useful findings of climate science. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, the industrial emission of which warms the atmosphere, a phenomenon which, according to the current volume and distribution of exhaust, could not misleadingly be described as global. But the totemic statistic of global mean temperature together with the glacial, coral, vegetative, and migratory phenomena, amongst others, of the climate system must according to any informed and impartial analysis result from a combination of independent variables. These could include variations in the intensity of solar radiation, orbital adjustments of the Earth, activity or inactivity of volcanoes, reflection or refraction of clouds, and fluctuations in the primordial processes of deep oceanic heating and cooling.

Regarding natural disasters and other severe weather incidents, a historiographical in addition to meteorological alteration is suggested, whereby freezes, fires, floods, and pestilences have perhaps newly acquired not so much heightened frequency or increased severity as ideological significance, continually given in evidence of impending environmental collapse. One might easily imagine the healthy skepticism that would have greeted an attempt by Trotsky to impute the Great Dust Bowl to the concentration of American capital, for example, or by Goebbels to pin the Stalingrad winter on the political theory of Bolshevism.

Groundbreaking: Tel Aviv University researchers induce cancer cells to ‘commit suicide’

“With the new technology, we caused cancer cells to produce the toxic protein that eventually killed them,” the researchers said.

By World Israel News Staff

For the first time ever, researchers encoded a toxin produced by bacteria into mRNA (messenger RNA) molecules and delivered these particles directly to cancer cells, causing the cells to produce the toxin – which eventually killed them with a success rate of 50%, Tel Aviv University (TAU) announced in a press release on Sunday.

The groundbreaking study was led by PhD student Yasmin Granot-Matok and Prof. Dan Peer, a pioneer in the development of RNA therapeutics and Head of the Nanomedicine Laboratory at the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, also serving as TAU’s VP R&D. The study’s results were published in Theranostics.

“Many bacteria secrete toxins. The most famous of these is probably the botulinum toxin injected in Botox treatments. Another classic treatment technique is chemotherapy, involving the delivery of small molecules through the bloodstream to effectively kill cancer cells,” Peer explains.

“However, chemotherapy has a major downside: it is not selective, and also kills healthy cells. Our idea was to deliver safe mRNA molecules encoded for a bacterial toxin directly to the cancer cells – inducing these cells to actually produce the toxic protein that would later kill them. It’s like placing a Trojan horse inside the cancer cell.”

First, the research team encoded the genetic information of the toxic protein produced by bacteria of the pseudomonas family into mRNA molecules (resembling the procedure in which genetic info of COVID-19’s ‘spike’ protein was encoded into mRNA molecules to create the vaccine). The mRNA molecules were then packaged in lipid nanoparticles developed in Peer’s laboratory and coated with antibodies – to make sure that the instructions for producing the toxin would reach their target, the cancer cells.

The particles were injected into the tumors of animal models with melanoma skin cancer. After a single injection, 44-60% of the cancer cells vanished.

“In our study, the cancer cell produced the toxic protein that eventually killed it,” says Peer. “We used pseudomonas bacteria and the melanoma cancer, but this was only a matter of convenience. Many anaerobic bacteria, especially those that live in the ground, secrete toxins, and most of these toxins can probably be used with our method.

Tel Aviv University Prof. Dan Peer (TAU)

“This is our ‘recipe’, and we know how to deliver it directly to the target cells with our nanoparticles. When the cancer cell reads the ‘recipe’ at the other end it starts to produce the toxin as if it were the bacteria itself and this self-produced toxin eventually kills it.

“Thus, with a simple injection to the tumor bed, we can cause cancer cells to ‘commit suicide’, without damaging healthy cells,” he said. “Moreover, cancer cells cannot develop resistance to our technology as often happens with chemotherapy – because we can always use a different natural toxin.”

Other contributors to the study included: Dr. Assaf Ezra, Dr. Srinivas Ramishetti, Dr. Preeti Sharma Dr. Gonna Somu Naidu and Prof. Itai Benhar, Head of the Antibody Engineering Lab at the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research at TAU. The study was funded by the Shmunis Family Foundation for Biomedicine and Cancer Research.
