Two rockets launched from Lebanon explode in Israeli territory; IDF shells Lebanese targets across the border.
By World Israel News Staff
The Israeli military retaliated with artillery strikes on targets in southern Lebanon after two rockets were launched from the country and exploded in Israeli territory.
Two rockets were fired from southern Lebanon, according to a Reuters report. One of the rockets struck near the Arab-Israeli village of Ghajar at around 8:00 a.m., while the other fell in the disputed Shebaa Farms region in the Golan Heights shortly afterwards.
Residents of Ghajar told Hebrew-language media that they heard the sound of a falling rocket and subsequent explosion, and that the impact had taken place near the Hatzbani River along the Israel-Lebanon border. Footage circulating on social media depicted large plumes of smoke rising from the impact sites.
No casualties or damage to property were reported.
While the IDF initially said they believed the explosion was the result of an old land mine being triggered, the military later acknowledged that a rocket had been fired.
“It emerged that a launch was carried out from Lebanese territory that exploded adjacent to the border in Israeli territory,” read a statement from the army.
““In response, the IDF is currently striking the area from which the launch was carried out in Lebanese territory,” the army continued.
Hebrew-language media has reported that the military is utilizing cross-border artillery shelling, rather than airstrikes, in retaliation for the launch.
The incident comes on the heels of high tensions between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group along the border.
Several weeks ago, Hezbollah established an encampment, which included several tents, on the Israeli side of the Blue Line.
Despite acknowledging that the encampment is a violation of Israeli sovereignty, the UN-backed UNIFIL peacekeeping force refused to order Hezbollah to remove the tents.
Earlier this week, Hezbollah quietly removed one of the tents.

Its replacement is called the prayer “For Reconciliation with the Jews.”
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The Canadian Anglican Church officially removed on Friday a prayer in its liturgy calling for the conversion of the world’s Jews in a procedure that began four years ago.
The prayer will be replaced by one called “For Reconciliation with the Jews,” which was written with input from the Canadian Rabbinic Caucus (CRC). The text asks God to forgive the worshiper “for violence and wickedness against our brother Jacob” due to “the arrogance of our hearts and minds,” requests the removal of all “prejudice,” and acknowledges that the Jews are still God’s people.
The church had almost unanimously approved the deletion of the longstanding original prayer in its General Synod in 2019, leading the CRC to call the decision “a milestone in Anglican-Jewish relations.”
Friday’s ratification was the final step in the process to take out of the Book of Common Prayer the discretionary prayer that pleads with God to “hasten the time when all Israel shall be saved” and “open their hearts” to acknowledge Jesus as “their true Messiah.”
The chief proponent for the change, Bishop Bruce Myers of Quebec, had pushed for it due to the sharp rise in global antisemitism, including in Canada, and the historical Christian persecution of Jews that was largely based on the belief that the Jews were guilty of killing Jesus and of not acknowledging that Christianity had superseded Judaism.
Altering the prayer, Rev. Myers said in a statement at the time, will push Anglicans “to acknowledge and repent of the church’s participation in anti-Semitism, to stop singling out Jews as a target for our evangelistic efforts, and to assume a humble and reconciliatory stance with our Jewish elders in the faith. It also invites Anglicans to be ever mindful of Christianity’s deep Jewish roots.”
Rabbi Adam Stein of Congregation Beth Israel in Vancouver, who had addressed the 2019 convention as a CRC representative and worked together with Myers, congratulated the Synod for the move.
“Authentic interfaith dialogue requires respect,” he said. “Any attempt by one to convert the other is the antithesis of respect.”
Other rabbis repeated the idea that the vote represented a milestone in interfaith relations, with Rabbi Reuben Poupko of Montreal saying on CRC’s behalf that the Anglican Church “has sent a strong signal to the Jewish community that it stands with us against anti-Semitism – both past and present.”
The largest branch of Christianity, the Roman Catholic Church, formally began the rethinking of the canonical beliefs that were the source of many conversion attempts, as well as periodic pogroms, when the Second Vatican Council issued the famed 1965 “Nostra Aetate” declaration that rejected what is known as “replacement” theology.
The last several Popes, including current Pope Francis, issued several reconciliatory remarks of respect for Judaism as Christianity’s “elder brother,” which would obviate the issue of encouraging or forcing Jews to abandon their faith.

“While this was a legitimate subject to examine in the interview, we apologize that the language used in this line of questioning was not phrased well and was inappropriate,” the network said.
By JNS
On Tuesday evening, Anjana Gadgil, a BBC anchor, drew upon language that evoked blood libels during an interview with former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces “are happy to kill children,” she said at one point.
On Wednesday, the BBC issued a statement in response to a complaint, which it summarized as being related “to specific interview questions about the deaths of young people in the Jenin refugee camp.”
“Across the BBC’s platforms—including the BBC News channel—these events have been covered in an impartial and robust way. The United Nations raised the issue of the impact of the operation in Jenin on children and young people,” the BBC responded.
“While this was a legitimate subject to examine in the interview, we apologize that the language used in this line of questioning was not phrased well and was inappropriate,” it added.
Marie van der Zyl, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, tweeted that she is pleased that the BBC apologized “for the clearly unacceptable language which was used in their interview with Naftali Bennett.”
“Having written to the director general on this matter today, I appreciate the corporation’s speedy response,” she added.
Bennett tweeted a story about the apology in the Jewish Chronicle, adding: “We are not quiet about the State of Israel’s honor.”
