2008 White House Hopeful Sends Condolences to West Virginia Coal Miner Families

January 4, 2006 – West Palm Beach, FL – Following the series of events that led to the discovery of 13 coal miners in West Virginia, 2008 White House Hopeful Daniel Imperato sent his sincere condolences to the families

“First off we must focus on what is most important here. There are 13 families that are in a world of hurt and to those families I want to tell you that you have my most sincere condolences. No one can replace what you have lost today, and we can only imagine the type of pain that you are experiencing,” stated Imperato.

In the early morning hours, the 12 families of the trapped West Virginia miners “had received reports that their family members, trapped in the mines, had been rescued alive.

However, by 3 a.m. Wednesday, when only one critical condition survivor was rushed to the hospital, 12 of those families learned that their loved ones had been rescued but were not alive.

The sole survivor, Randal McCloy, 27, was in critical condition in intensive care Wednesday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

“He suffered some collapse of one of his lungs,” said Dr. Larry Roberts. “And we’re trying to reopen that and there’s good progress there.”

Mine company chief Ben Hatfield called the situation a tragic “miscommunication”.

Upon seeing the jubilation of people rushing out of a West Virginia church with the ‘good news’ media outlets, television, newspaper, internet, and radio all reported that the mine workers had been found alive.

“Human error is something that is unavoidable. But when the information that we pass along concerns people’s lives, there is a certain degree of caution that we must use. Hopefully, everyone has learned a lesson from this unfortunate situation,” commented Imperato.

Rescue workers were working for countless hours before finding the bodies at around 11:53 pm yesterday night.

Imperato concluded his statement with the following remarks, “I want to take the time to thank the brave men and women who risked their lives to save their fellow man. I also want to thank the American people and the people around the world who have sent their prayers and well wishes for the affected families. During these times we must take a look at what is important in our lives, and be thankful for what we have, even in the face of tragedy. To the families, you have my pledge that I will make sure that your loss is not in vain, and that mines that are egregiously not up to code, and that put peoples lives in danger are no longer allowed to operate.”
